Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said Brisbane City Council’s Lunar New Year celebrations offers a variety of colourful entertainment for residents and visitors.

“This historic celebration recognises the most important date in the Chinese and Asian calendar, with a vibrant mix of traditional Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese dances, cultural performances, firecrackers and hands-on workshops,” Cr Quirk says.

“The event is a great opportunity to join friends and family in enjoying some of the rich culture and atmosphere of these traditions and is one of many in the Valley Malls that celebrates Brisbane’s cultural diversity. Lunar New Year is one of 50,000 festivals, events and markets that Council helps to deliver each year as part of our commitment to delivering great lifestyle and leisure opportunities.”

Part of Council’s BrisAsia Festival – which seeks to foster stronger connections and collaborations between Brisbane and Asia – the Lunar New Year celebrations will take place from 4–9pm on Saturday 9 February and 12–5pm Sunday 10 February 2019.

“The event has something for everyone and I encourage residents to check out the full Lunar New Year program online to ensure they don’t miss any of these exciting events,”Cr Quirk says. “Our city is a great place to live, work and relax and Lunar New Year is a great example of the different cultures that come together to make that happen.”
